Author Jayel Gibson Appointed to ORCCA Board of Directors

Port Orford, Oregon (PRWEB) November 27, 2008 -- For the past year, fantasy author Jayel Gibson (http://jayelgibson.ning.com/profile/4zx7ipcjq6uw) has been campaigning to 'make hunger a fantasy' along the southern Oregon coast. During her charitable book events, Gibson encourages visitors to drop off boxed and canned foods, give cash donations and volunteer their time. She is on hand with a bright smile and a bookmark to autograph copies of her award winning Ancient Mirrors fantasy series (http://jayelgibson.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=2313881%3ATopic%3A623), and each event's book sale proceeds go to help keep the pantries filled. "Currently, South Coast Food Share distributes over 100,000 pounds of food each month through 30 member agencies. It serves over 5,000 low-income residents and distributes approximately 1.2 million pounds of food each year. Just keeping pantries full is a daily challenge," says Gibson. "Someone had to step up and help. The community response has been wonderful and the book sellers hosting the events have contributed as well."

This month, Ms. Gibson was appointed to the Oregon Coast Community Action agency's (http://www.orcca.us/) board of directors, where she will continue to work against hunger in Oregon's south coast counties in an official capacity.

Oregon Coast Community Action was originally incorporated in 1965 as Southwestern Oregon Community Action Committee. In 2006, the name was changed to create greater distinction in the communities they serve. ORCCA is one of the first Community Action agencies created during the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson. ORCCA works with low-income people in Coos, Curry, and Western Douglas Counties to alleviate the effects and the causes of poverty. ORCCA also provides a number of services and activities that benefit the entire community, improving the quality of life throughout the south coast.

ORCCA is a nonprofit network of programs that feed, house, warm and educate people. ORCCA employs more than 150 people, with an annual budget that exceeds $7 million from a multitude of funding sources spanning several fiscal years. ORCCA's mission statement is: Empowering people to work toward social and economic justice and independence. South Coast Food Share, Head Start, and CASA of Coos County are among the programs that help support this goal.
